Dear Ms Fok,

Thank you for your email.  The writer says that the reference to the
M-Train isn't meant to be a comment about Manhattan's recession. Its
just a description of his train journey to Brooklyn!

We appreciate your ideas and our correspondent says he will look to
incorporating them into a piece soon.

Kind regards

COMMENTS: Dear Editor:
Being a Manhattannite for on and off eight years, I'm writing about the
following BBC News Article: "Recession fears stalk America"

The Article starts off, "It is 0900 as the M-train from Manhattan
rattles and squeals its way across the Williamsburg Bridge.
Below, New York's East River swells and surges grey and cold. The train
slows to a halt, and a handful of people get out.
The roads from the subway station are lined with old warehouses.
Graffiti is scrawled across much of the brickwork.
Inside one of the buildings is the Brooklyn Brewery - where they make
one of the top draft beers in the city.
There are pressures from every direction - it's a perfect storm Steve
Hindy Brooklyn Brewery On the floor by the warehouse doors are some
sacks of grain. Malt from England is embossed on the sacks in red ink.
The brewery imports the grain, and that is proving expensive these days.
"

which all sounds great if we were in the late 90's, but I must say how
inaccurate it is to represent Manhattan with its recession beginning
with the above representation!

Perhaps it's even a better representation describing the Lower Manhattan
crisis or the West Side building construction halt, but please,
describing Mr. Price's experience on the M-Train ( which by the way,
isn't even the main line that carries most of Manhattan's passengers
from Brooklyn to Manhattan?), I feel this is a little of a distortion of
reality, esp. for people who don't live in Manhattan or even inside the
US.

Perhaps I'm only being critical, only b/c I expect better journalistic
references from BBC, but perhaps I wish that Manhattan's building
industry be better represented during this economic slump. Although I
agree with parts of the latter article, being an architect/designer
educated within Manhattan, who's worked on projects within and
internationally outside of Manhattan, still the M-Train is not the best
case study for the Citizens of New York--(for goodness sakes, at least
use the N or even the 6 train as the references, since MTA even quotes
the 6 train being the heaviest ridden train within Manhattan...).

Sincerely,
Wendy W Fok

October 2007:
071007: Pidgin Magazine--something I did recently got published there, along with other talented architectural related people. Going to Dubai UAE soon for a Studio Related Project--kind of excited to see all the sand, unbuilt buildings, and face the extreme heat...

June 2007:
07611: Going to Brazil for work/pleasure in two weeks. kind of excited. will be out for a little less than a month. please don't get upset if I don't reply to emails as frequently. I'll remember to document all the favelas for all of you ;)~
Feel free to stalk me through Facebook or even Friendster, but *ahem* you know who you are, stop asking me to join MySpace...

March 2007:
070305: Currently For Sale on Craigslist New York: Currently selling one of my *mint* condition Canon 30Ds, b/c I would like to use the monetary means to fix my currently 'hit and run' GS500E Suzuki motorcycle, which most of you already know was hit by a Van not long ago...argh. So, if you're interested in purchasing a pristine Canon EOS 30D, and/or a Canon EF Ultrasonic 28-105mm f/2.8~4.5 II USM lens, click here.

BEWARE of purchasing any digital or camera/video equipment from BestBuyCameras. I was nearly scammed into purchasing a new Canon 30D add-on to my eight year old, Canon Elan II, as a digital enhancer. Usually the pricing is what attracts customers, which in this case was for me, but the true deception was the CS willingly admitted that they camera was a plastic and not magnesium frame, which I found odd, since Canon did not make any 30Ds with Plastic, other than the plastic that comes with the exterior shell... Anyhow, other than that, I also saw a lot of BBB complaints for their company, which is located in 1938 MacDonald Drive in Brooklyn NY 11223.

It's really unfortunate that people would have to find this type of means to make money. I was really looking fwd to purchasing my new camera from these people--since, I also wanted to purchase the Canon 17-40mm f/4L USM lens, which I know is so good! Oh well, next time. Also heard that these other people called Royal Cameras [aka: CCI Cameras off ShopCartUSA.com] is also unreliable. Another recent 'near scam' was trying to purchase from ExpressCameras, who are lcoated in Edison NJ. Feel free to read the Review Centre's unhappy customer ratings.

To Top off that list, there is one more to go: Enterprise Photos [aka: J&K Cameras], feel free to read their Reviews. All of these people have very professional websites, and ASP pages, so just be careful. I had to ring up my CC company just in case, so that if my CC is charged with any 'fraudulent' activity, they would know it's not me.

Good luck on future purchases, just thought keeping people aware of these things would make your online shopping experience a lot better. Keep the camera rolling~

January 2007:
070122: I recently bought a painting painted by an Elephant while I was in Pattaya, Thailand--the elephant's name was "Mook". Bangkok + Pattaya was a total waste of money--totally over-rated--I've been to WAY better beaches in other parts of the world than that overcrowded beach with a bunch of Korean + Russian tourists! {and no, I'm not being racist...}

I'm totally stressed out abt this Research Article I'm supposed to have written, which was due last week...that has been selected to be presented, along with five other professionals, at the 'market of effects' symposium at Yale this coming March 2007...it's really surprising how 10 pages can become 21 pages without knowing--I guess it's time to cut down on the word count, and really be a little more concise in developing this presentation...

070120: OMBuddha! I loved Siem Reap {Angkor Wat} Cambodia, it's currently my favourite jungle area, and the place I'd like to retire in at the moment. Btw, I should have worked on my 15 article whilst in India for the past three weeks...
If you're currently find this page boring, feel free to browse through my old thoughts {links on the bottom}, or go to my design site.

I'm still extremely happy, excellent, and things have been great, so far, this year!
Good luck and Take care for now.
